With more than 20 years of professional experience, Dr. Yaratha has been an attending psychiatrist of outpatient adult psychiatry at Gateway Homes since 2008, also holding a private practice in outpatient adult psychiatry since 2015. In addition to his primary roles, he has held a number of positions with Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center, including the assistant chief and acting chief of mental health services in 2018 and medical director of inpatient psychiatry and attending psychiatrist from 2016 to 2018. Dr. Yaratha was also an associate professor with the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine from 2016 to 2018 and a forensic psychiatrist with Central State Hospital from 2006 to 2016.

From 2004 to 2005, Dr. Yaratha was a psychiatrist for the Southwestern Virginia Mental Health Institute geriatrics unit and in 2004, he was a contract psychiatrist for QTC Medical Management. Earlier in his career, he was a staff psychiatrist for the Vera French Community Mental Health Center from 2001 to 2003 and a staff psychiatrist with Thomas Memorial Hospital and Paycare, Inc., from 1999 to 2001. Dr. Yaratha is a member of the American Society of Addiction Medicine, the American Psychiatric Association and the American Medical Association.

Dr. Yaratha first pursued an education at Austin College, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in psychology in 1991. He continued his studies at Spartan Health Sciences University School of Medicine, earning an MD in 1995. He then joined West Virginia University and the Charleston Area Medical Center, holding a residency of internal medicine and psychiatry from 1996 to 2001. Dr. Yaratha has been certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and is licensed to practice in the state of Virginia.

Throughout his career, Dr. Yaratha has been recognized for his contributions. The recipient of the Teaching Award from the VCU Medical Class of 2018, he was also given a Teaching Award by the Virginia Commonwealth University Health Systems Psychiatry Residents. Named Resident of the Year by Pfizer, he was given the Esther McMahon Award and the Teaching Award in Psychiatry. Dr. Yaratha graduated in the top quarter of his medical school class.
