Siva Subramanian, MD, FAAP, Director of Nurseries at Medstar George University Hospital, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements and leadership in neonatology.

A native of Tamil Nadu, India, Dr. Subramanian loved agriculture, but ultimately chose health care to provide care to others due to his late brother Dr. Chandrasekar’s influence. He has excelled in the field of neonatology serving as a director of nurseries and the chief of neonatology at Medstar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC, since 1981, and has further progressed to the posts of vice-chair of pediatrics from 1993 to 1999 and professor of pediatrics and obstetrics-gynecology since 1991. Additionally, Dr. Subramanian has contributed as an attending neonatologist for the aforementioned institution since 1976.

Prior to embarking upon his professional path, he pursued an education at the University of Madras in India, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in 1964, and a dual Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery in 1969. He was an intern in pediatrics at the Jewish Hospital and Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York, from 1971 to 1972, where he got his exposure in the neonatal care unit, which was then an emerging field in medicine. He later completed his pediatric residency at the University of Maryland Hospital, further concluding his fellowship training at Medstar Georgetown University Hospital. Dr. Subramanian is a certified diplomate through both the American Boards of Pediatrics and Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine. He believes that his ability to tend to others when they are extremely fragile has most benefited him in his professional growth.

As a testament to his success, Dr. Subramanian was the recipient of the MAGIS Master Teacher Award and the Clinical Teacher of Year Award, as well as the Teacher of the Year Award. Notably, he was the subject of features published in Newsweek, the Washingtonian Journal and the Georgetown University Medical Center Web Magazine. He has also appeared on many local and national TV and radio shows for his expertise. For his outstanding accomplishments, Dr. Subramanian has been selected for inclusion in many editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Education, Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, Who’s Who in the East and Who’s Who in the World.
