Company: Shannon Medical Center
Location: San Angelo, Texas, United States
David M. Huchton, MD, FACS, Chairman of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology and President of Medical Staff at the Shannon Medical Center, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in head and neck otolaryngologic surgery.
From a young age, Dr. Huchton knew that he wanted to become a surgeon. He liked helping others and was skilled with his hands. In addition, his sister was born deaf, which encouraged him to specialize in otorhinolaryngology. He found that the ear, nose and throat specialty allowed him to both see patients in his office and operate, which he believes has kept him well-rounded. Throughout his accomplished medical career, Dr. Huchton attributes his success to his ability to relate to his patients, as well as to his surgical skills.
Prior to his professional pursuits, Dr. Huchton attended the University of California San Francisco, graduating with an MD in 1993. He completed a residency in microvascular reconstruction at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and Hospital in Baltimore, and additionally completed a fellowship at the same institution. As a diplomate of the American Board of Otolaryngology, Dr. Huchton has worked as a doctor and the chairman of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology at the Shannon Medical Center since 2001 and, since 2019, he has held the position of president of the medical staff.
To aspiring professionals in medicine, Dr. Huchton advises that the career allows for a lot of hard work. It can be difficult to achieve sought-after positions in the increasingly competitive climate of the health care industry, but he finds the most important aspect of the job to be keeping the respect of the patients. As a fellow of the American Academy of Otolaryngology and the American College of Surgeons, Dr. Huchton believes his current work is what he is meant to be doing and plans to continue his direct involvement with patient care in the years to come.
