W. Britt Nelson, President at Cook Children’s Health Care System, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in pediatrics.
With more than four decades of experience to his credit, Dr. Nelson has excelled as the president of Cook Children’s Physician Network since 2009. Prior to this prestigious appointment, he contributed as the director of pediatrics transport for the Cook’s Children’s Medical Center having previously been the director of intensive care, between 1990 and 2009. Earlier in his career, he contributed as an assistant professor of pediatrics with the Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Virginia, from 1985 to 1990.
A graduate of the University of Texas, Dr. Nelson earned a Doctor of Medicine in 1980. Following his graduation, he completed a residency in pediatrics with The Children’s Hospital of the University of Oklahoma for three years. Subsequently, he served as a fellow of critical care with The Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles from 1983 to 1985. Dr. Nelson is also a diplomate of the American Board of Pediatrics.
Civically, Dr. Nelson has volunteered with mission groups in Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Albania, Columbia, and Mexico. For his accomplishments in the field thus far, he has been named in the 400 Most Influential People by Fort Worth Magazine, Top Doctors by Texas Monthly, and the Best Doctor in America Magazine. Additionally, he was recognized as a Distinguished Physician by the Cook Children’s Hospital in 2005.
Looking to the future, Dr. Nelson wants to retire in the next five years and hopes to work for another non-profit organization that does not require him to be at work every day. He would like to reach out to people in dire need and wants to be part of a crisis team.
