Jerry W. Martin, MD, retired family physician, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements and leadership in family medicine.
Dr. Martin had an inherent interest in chemistry and biology as a child, which is what drove him to pursue medicine. With a Bachelor of Science from Western Kentucky University, Dr. Martin was accepted into medical school at the University of Louisville. In 1963, he earned an MD. He went on to complete a rotating internship at the University of Louisville Affiliated Hospitals in 1964. Dr. Martin then found a home at a private practice in Bowling Green, Kentucky, where he remained until his retirement in 2002. During those years, he solidified his expertise as a founding diplomate of the American Board of Family Practice.
A pioneer in his field, Dr. Martin has received numerous accolades for his work. In 1987, he was given a certificate of recognition from the Family Health Foundation of America and, in 1990, the American Heart Association honored him with a Certificate of Appreciation. More recently, he received the Summit Award from the College Heights Foundation. Furthermore, he is a fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians, the Royal Society of Medicine and the American College of Emergency Physicians. He additionally is a member of several esteemed professional groups. Dr. Martin is featured in numerous editions of Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who in the South and Southwest, as well as the fourth edition of Who’s Who in Medicine in Healthcare. As a further testament to his success, in 2019, he was presented with the Marquis Humanitarian Award and the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award, in recognition of his plentiful achievements.
