Michael Kushner, Doctor at EmergeOrtho, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in neurology.
With nearly 40 years of professional experience, Dr. Kushner has been at the Wilson Office since 1992. In addition to his primary role, he has served as a clinical assistant professor for Eastern Carolina University School of Medicine since 1997, and he has been with EmergeOrtho since 2013. Prior to obtaining his current positions, he was an attending physician and assistant professor with the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania from 1983 to 1990, having been a research associate since 1981.
Dr. Kushner first pursued his higher education with Yale University, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in physics, cum laude, in 1973. He continued his studies with New York University, earning a Doctor of Medicine in 1977. He then joined the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center Parkland Memorial Hospital, completing an internship from 1977 to 1978. He subsequently held a residency of neurology with the Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center Neurological Institute from 1978 to 1981.
A diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Dr. Kushner has been certified by the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine and the American Board of Pain Medicine. He has also been certified in neurosonology and MRI by the American Society of Neuroimaging and in Headache Medicine and Neuroimaging by the United Council for Neurological Subspecialties. Dr. Kushner is also a diplomate of the American Board of Medical Examiners and the American Board of Independent Medical Examiners.
A respected voice in his areas of interest, Dr. Kushner has been affiliated with a number of professional organizations. The former treasurer of the American Society of Neuroimaging, he has served as president of the North Carolina Neurological Society. He is a member of the American Academy of Neurology, the American Heart Association, the American Medical Association, the American Society of Neuroimaging, and the American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine. He has also been active with the Yale Club of New York City, Yale of North Carolina, and Yale of Central North Carolina.
Throughout his career, Dr. Kushner has been recognized for his contributions, including having received the Lange Book Award from the New York University School of Medicine. He has been featured in numerous honors publications, including multiple editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, Who’s Who in the South and Southwest, Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare, and Who’s Who in the World.
