David Dressler, Psychiatrist, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership.
In preparation for his career, Dr. Dressler attended Reed College, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1960. He continued his higher education at the University of Chicago, graduating with an MD in 1964, and started as an intern at the San Francisco General Hospital. Subsequently, he completed a residency at the Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, New York, from 1965 to 1968, and served briefly as a fellow at Yale University from 1968 to 1969. Dr. Dressler accepted a position as an assistant professor of psychiatry at Yale, which he held until 1973, and became the chief of psychiatry at the New Britain General Hospital in Connecticut.
That same year, Dr. Dressler became an associate professor of psychiatry at the University of Connecticut Medical School, where he remained for nearly 20 years, until his departure in 1992. Since the conclusion of his academic career, he has applied his expertise as a psychiatrist in private practice in Roxbury, Connecticut. Dr. Dressler is a diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and a distinguished life fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. He has found additional success through his writing, authoring the pamphlet “Guidelines for a Productive, Meaningful and Fulfilling Life: Practical Wisdom gained from 50 years of clinical practice and 80 years of life experience and self-reflection” in 2019.
Dr. Dressler has been inspired by the writings of Carl Jung. He believes in the importance of being in alignment with the universe. In his eyes, everything has always fallen together for him. After starting his higher education as a chemistry major, he found he could not envision working as a chemist, and had an epiphany in 1959. He woke up one morning and realized with certainty that he was going to become a psychiatrist. As a testament to his success and experience, Dr. Dressler has been selected for inclusion in multiple editions of Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare and Who’s Who in America.
