Robert Sidwell, PhD, Retired Virologist with Drugs that Treat Virus Diseases, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in virology.
With nearly 55 years of professional experience in virology, Dr. Sidwell’s latest role consisted of being a consultant with Drugs that Treat Virus Diseases from 2007 to 2012. Prior to obtaining this role, he was director of the Institute of Antiviral Research at Utah State University from 1992 to 2007, where he was also a professor of veterinary science from 1977 to 2007. He previously held a number of positions with the ICN Nucleic Acid Research Institute, including director of the institute from 1975 to 1977, head of chemotherapy from 1972 to 1975, and head of virology from 1969 to 1972. Earlier in his career, she was a member of the faculty at the University of Alabama Medical School from 1968 to 1969, head of the virus division at the Southern Research Institute from 1963 to 1969, and head of serology, rickets, and virus research at the University of Utah Epi Zoology Laboratory from 1958 to 1963.
Dr. Sidwell first pursued an education with Brigham Young University, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in 1958. He then joined the University of Utah, completing a Master of Science in 1961. He continued his studies with the school, earning a PhD in 1963. For his contributions to the field, he has been featured in numerous honors publications, including multiple editions of Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who in the West.
