James Andersen, Principal Investigator at Meridien Research, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership as a researcher, physician, and medical director.

In preparation for his career, Dr. Andersen attended Ohio Wesleyan University and earned a Bachelor of Science in chemistry and pre-med with a minor in speech in 1968. He continued his academic efforts at the institution, graduating with an MD in 1972, subsequently completing a residency in family medicine at the University of Miami School of Medicine from 1972 to 1974 and serving as a chief resident in family medicine from 1974 to 1975. Dr. Andersen garnered experience as an emergency room physician from 1975 to 1977 and worked in a private solo mobile practice in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, from 1977 to 1991. After a brief tenure as a locum tenens with Broward County, he served as a chief physician at Quality Care Bartow from 1992 to 1995 and as a personal physician in his office and in-home care from 1992 to 2010.

From 1994 to 2010, Dr. Andersen was an approved examiner for Portomedic ExamOne and Superior Mobile Medics in Florida, and from 1996 to 1999, he worked as a senior physician at the Lakeland Family Health Center. He spent a decade as the medical director of the Mid Town Medical Group LLC in Lakeland, Florida, where he remained until 2009, and later served as a medical director for Bridges of America from 2000 to 2018 before starting as a sub-investigator at Meridien Research in 2009. At Meridien Research, Dr. Andersen rose to the rank of a principal investigator in 2013, a post he continues to hold. He has acted as the medical director of Lakeland Centres since 1995 and has worked in a private addiction medical practice since 2016.

Dr. Andersen holds numerous licenses and certifications, including a medical license in the state of Florida since 1972. Since 2009, he has been certified in the Meridien Research Internal GCP Training Program and has held myriad additional rating certifications, among other certifications. As an experienced medical professional, Dr. Andersen has maintained affiliations with many professional organizations throughout his career, including being a diplomate of the American Board of Family Practice from 1975 to 2010, a fellow of the American Society of Addiction Medicine from 1985 to 2017 and a member of the Christian Medical Dental Association since 1985.

Dr. Andersen attributes his success to his ability to simplify things—he is able to break down and understand complicated topics and is proud of how this enables him to explain medical practices to his patients. Throughout his prolific research career, Dr. Andersen has had many medical accomplishments, including studying adults with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and working with patients with fatty liver disease and hyperlipidemia. Currently, he is conducting research on Alzheimer’s Disease and has made significant progress with medicine for drug addiction. In the coming years, he plans to continue his service to the medical profession through both clinical work and research.
