Dr. Alexander McLeod, Physician, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in clinical practice, health care administration and medical education.
Dr. McLeod began his higher education at Princeton University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1956, and continued his academic efforts at Johns Hopkins University, completing postgraduate coursework from 1959 to 1960. Subsequently, he graduated from Duke University with an MD in 1960, and garnered experience as an intern and assistant resident at New York Hospital–Cornell Medical Center in New York, New York, now known as the NewYork-Presbyterian / Weill Cornell Medical Center, until 1962. Dr. McLeod served in the United States Navy Reserve for two years and received an honorable discharge, returning to his practice as a resident and fellow in medicine and neurology at Vanderbilt University Hospital. In 1967, he started his own private practice in internal medicine, where he worked for more than 30 years, until 1998.
In addition to his primary pursuits, Dr. McLeod has served as an educator, starting as an adjunct professor of management at Vanderbilt University’s Owen Graduate School of Management in 1995, where he remained until 2002. From 1996 to 2000, he additionally worked as the faculty coordinator of health care management at the institution, and from 1999 to 2002, he shared his expertise as a clinical professor of medical administration at Vanderbilt University. Furthermore, Dr. McLeod held the post of a clinical professor of medicine at the university until 2002, when he took on the designation of a clinical professor of medicine emeritus. He is a diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners and the American Board of Internal Medicine and has found success as a presenter and author of numerous articles in professional medical journals. Dr. McLeod considers the most rewarding part of his career to be taking care of multiple generations of families, and he has been recognized for his success and contributions with a Physicians Achievement Award.
