In her career spanning more than 40 years, Dr. Brown leveraged her skills and expertise as the chief of staff at Jesse Brown VA Medical Center from 2006 to 2016, having held the same positions with VA Tennessee Valley Healthcare Systems since 2003. Prior to obtaining these roles, she was a staff physician at St Mary’s Health Center from 1994 to 2003, and St. Louis City Hospital from 1982 to 1985, and at St. Louis University Hospitals from 1978 to 2003. From 1990 to 2003, she also served as director of clinical nephrology at St. Louis VA Medical Center, having been chief of the dialysis and renal section since 1985, acting chief of hemodialysis from 1983 to 1985, and a staff physician since 1978. Earlier in her career, she was a general practitioner with Vogelweh Health Clinics from 1975 to 1976.
Dr. Brown first pursued an education with the University of Massachusetts, where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts in 1966. She then joined the Medical College of Pennsylvania, completing a Doctor of Medicine in 1970. She held an internship with the University of Illinois Affiliated Hospitals from 1970 to 1971, a residency in internal medicine with the Medical College of Wisconsin Affiliated Hospitals from 1971 to 1974, where she also held a fellowship of nephrology from 1976 to 1978. She later returned to her studies with St. Louis University, earning a Master of Public Health in 1999. She is a diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine.
