Dimitrios Petropoulos, Pediatric Hematologist, Oncologist and Educator, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the medical profession.

Dr. Petropoulos began his career as an attending physician at the Aghia Sophio Children’s Hospital, where he garnered experience from 1997 to 2002. He continued his career as a staff physician of pediatrics at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, where he continues to work to this day, and additionally held the post of an assistant professor from 2002 to 2011. Dr. Petropoulos rose to the rank of an associate professor at the center from 2011 to 2017 and has since held the designation of a full professor. Growing up, both of his parents were educators, and they instilled in him the importance of academics, which he has carried through his career.

In preparation for his career, Dr. Petropoulos attended the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens’ School of Health Sciences, where he graduated with an MD and doctorate, summa cum laude, in 1986. He holds additional certifications from the American Board of Medical Quality, the American Board of Pediatrics, the Oncology Subspecialty Board and the American Board of Pediatrics Hematology, in addition to being a diplomate in pediatrics hematology. Dr. Petropoulos recalls a longstanding desire to work as an educator and physician, and considers himself fortunate to have been able to achieve both goals.

In addition to his primary pursuits, Dr. Petropoulos is a member of the American Society of Hematology, the American Society of Blood and Marrow Transplantation, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Society of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology. Committed to his career, he has additionally dedicated his time to a foundation for the accreditation of cellular therapy. Dr. Petropoulos decided to focus on pediatrics due to witnessing the struggles of families, and finds the most rewarding aspect of his profession to be helping children become longtime survivors. As a testament to his success, experience and stature, he has been featured in multiple editions of Who’s Who in America.
