Elizabeth Ouellette, Hand Surgeon and Director of Miami International Hand Surgery Service LLC, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in medical administration and hand surgery.
Dr. Ouellette began her career as an assistant professor at the University of Miami School of Medicine in 1985, rising to the rank of associate professor in 1991. In 1999, she became a full professor, and in 2007, she took on the designation of professor emeritus, which she holds to this day. Since her departure from the University of Miami, Dr. Ouellette has worked as the director of Miami International Hand Surgery Service LLC in North Miami Beach, Florida, and in 2019, she became a hand surgeon at Baptist Health of South Florida.
In preparation for her career, Dr. Ouellette studied at Texas A&M University, earning a Bachelor of Science in chemistry, cum laude, in 1974. She earned an MD from the University of Texas Medical School in 1978, and completed her residency at the University of Washington in 1983. She has been certified in hand surgery by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, and in 1989, she became a diplomate of the organization. Later in her career, Dr. Ouellette returned to her academic pursuits, earning an MBA from the University of Miami School of Business. She is a member of the Florida Hand Society, the Kiros Hand Society, the Ruth Jackson Orthopedic Society, the American Orthopaedics Association, and the American Association for Surgery of the Hand, among others.
In addition to her primary professional pursuits, since 1991 Dr. Ouellette has leveraged her knowledge and experience as the chief of hand surgery service at Jackson Memorial Hospital, additionally acting as director of the hospital’s hand fellowship program. From 1995 to 2007, she served as the chief of orthopaedics at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami. Dr. Ouellette is a fellow of the University of Miami, and since 2002, has been a founding team member of the university’s Institute of Women’s Health Leadership. As a testament to her success, experience and stature, Dr. Ouellette was the first woman on the council for the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, and has been featured in the 63rd edition of Who’s Who in America.
