John Ambrose, MD, Professor of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco-Fresno, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in cardiology.
Fascinated with the human body at a young age, Dr. Ambrose found a particular interest in the heart and diseases associated with that organ. Furthermore, he attended the New York Medical College, where he obtained a Doctor of Medicine in 1972, graduating as valedictorian. He was later hired by Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, serving as an intern, resident, and cardiology fellow from 1972 to 1977. During this time, he also a diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine and he is a diplomate in cardiovascular diseases. Soon thereafter, he worked as a member of the faculty at Mount Sinai Hospital from 1977 to 1980, before accepting the position of chief of the catheterization laboratory at Westchester Medical Center between 1980 and 1982.
From 1982 to 1997, Dr. Ambrose returned to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he served as a professor and chief of the catheterization laboratory. Furthermore, he contributed as the director of the cardiovascular center and professor of medicine at New York Medical College and St. Vincent’s Hospital, between 1998 to 2003. Dr. Ambrose is currently a professor and member of the cardiology faculty at the University of California, San Francisco in Fresno, California. Prior to obtaining his current role, he was the chief of cardiology from 2005 to 2017 and program director of the cardiovascular fellowship program from 2007 to 2017 in Fresno. A renowned doctor in the field of health care, he has authored 300 paper and book chapters, trained more than 250 cardiology fellows, edited two books and lectured both domestically and internationally. In honor of his contributions to society, Dr. Ambrose has been the recipient of an Alumni Medal of Honor from the New York Medical College and has been named among the Best Doctors in America. In the coming years, he would continue working and teaching, as well as vacationing more often.
