Andrew Namen, Associate Professor at Wake Forest School of Medicine, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the field of pediatrics.
Dr. Namen always wanted to care for others and took the opportunity to participate in the family business. His mentor was his uncle, a pediatrician who treated him with great kindness and encouraged him to pursue the field of medicine. Dr. Namen earned a Bachelor of Science from Mercer University in 1988 as well as a Doctor of Medicine from the Medical College of Georgia in 1994. He was a resident in internal medicine at the North Carolina Baptist Hospitals where he further supported by his compassionate and non-judgmental mentor. Upon completing his residency in 1999, Dr. Namen received certification in critical care medicine and pulmonary disease with the American Board of Internal Medicine.
After leaving his fellowship in training, where he did his subspecialty training after medical school. Dr. Namen went into private practice and was the chief of medicine at the local hospital he served. He then focused his efforts on research and providing for the underserved. He shared his knowledge with others as the sleep operations director and clinical sleep coordinator of Wake Forest Baptist University as well as an associate professor in pulmonary, critical care, allergy, and immunologic medicine at the institution.
As a testament to his success, Dr. Namen earned the Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Award from North Carolina Baptist Hospitals in 1999 and in 2001. He holds a membership with the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, the American College of Chest Physicians, the American Thoracic Society, and Alpha Omega Alpha. He has worked extensively on JANDA, a set of self-administered pre-operation questionnaires designed to help identify medical emergencies team activation in older adults. Throughout the course of his career, Dr. Namen has always been readily available for his colleagues and his patients and was always willing to undertake difficult cases.
