Henry “Ned” Lamkin Jr., MD, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in health care cost and quality management.
Dr. Lamkin is a diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine and an award-winning physician known for his integrity, professionalism and ability to find solutions to problems by putting other people’s needs at the forefront of his efforts. He entered his field in 1957 driven by an intellectual curiosity that led him toward the path of becoming a doctor, minister or lawyer. While studying at DePauw University for his undergraduate degree, Dr. Lamkin decided that he would be best suited for a career in medicine. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1956 followed by an MD from the Indiana University School of Medicine in 1960. He then completed an internship at Philadelphia General Hospital, residency in internal medicine at the Indiana University Medical Center and fellowship in endocrinology and metabolism at the Indiana University Medical Center.
Now retired, Dr. Lamkin is highly regarded within his field. In his career, he held prominent roles including chairman of the board for CashMD, co-chairman of the Beta House Renovation Campaign, vice president and chief medical officer of the Key Family of Companies, president and chief executive officer of the Indiana Employers Health Care Coalition, and coordinator of the Indiana Choice Alliance. In recognition of his professional excellence, Dr. Lamkin was the recipient of an Otis R. Bowen Distinguished Leadership Award from the Dean’s Council of the Indiana University School of Medicine. He also earned an Independent Optometry Association Award, the Otis R. Bowen Physician Community Service Award from the Marion County Medical Society, an Alumni Citation from DePauw University, and an Appreciation Award from the Independent Academy of Family Practice, among any others. He was also named One of the Five Outstanding Young Men of Indiana by the Indiana Jaycees and Sagamore of the Wabash by the Honorable Otis R. Bowen, MD.
Outside of his professional work, Dr. Lamkin has been tremendously involved in his professional community. In addition to being a public speaker and published author of many medical texts, he has been active in prominent industry organizations. Dr. Lamkin has been chairman of the physician advisory committee for Healthsource of Indiana (previously Farm Bureau), president and CEO of Allied Professional Services, member of the utilization review committee for M. Plan HMO, founding president of the Aegis Medical Clinic, president of the medical staff at the Methodist Hospital of Indiana, chairman of New World Associates, medical director of the Farm Bureau Healthcare Network and medical director of the Millennium Management Company.
Today, Dr. Lamkin serves as a member of the board executive committee of the Indiana Health Information Exchange and fellow of the American College of Physicians. He was also more recently involved with projects for the Washington C. DePauw Society, ICareConnect, the National Business Coalition on Health, the Healthy Indy Partnership, the Indiana Employers of Quality Health Alliance, the Farm Bureau Health Care Network and the Citizens’ Health Clinic. He is also a member of the Indiana Home Health Services, Inc., the Physician and Hospitals Alliance of Indiana, the Indianapolis Convention and Visitors Association, the Indiana State Medical Association, the American Medical Association, the American College of Physician Executives, the National Association of Managed Care Physicians, the National Association for Health Care Quality, Alpha Omega Alpha, and Beta Theta Pi. As he looks ahead to the future, Dr. Lamkin intends to continue contributing his expertise and top skills to current projects and new opportunities in his professional community.
