Edward Kelly, Physician at Downingtown Family Practice, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership as a family physician and medical educator.
Dr. Kelly started his education at St. Joseph’s University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in biology in 1969. He continued his studies at Thomas Jefferson University, earning an MD in 1973, and started as a resident at Wilmington Medical Center. Inspired by his father, a family doctor, he planned to follow a similar career path. In 1976, he finished his residency and opened his private practice, Downingtown Family Practice, where he continues to work to this day. From 1989 to 1994, Dr. Kelly worked as the chairman of the department of family practice at Brandywine Hospital, and from 1985 to 1997, he was a member of the professional advisory council of Blue Shield of Pennsylvania. Since 1984, he has operated as a professional consultant in addition to his clinical work at his family practice.
From 1983 to 2001, Dr. Kelly worked as a school and team physician for the Downingtown Area School District, and since 1985, he has worked on the board of directors for the Downingtown Senior Center. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians, and a member of the Pennsylvania Academy of Family Physicians. Just as he was mentored in his career, by Dr. Gonzalo Aponte and Dene Walters, Dr. Kelly has found it important to teach students of his own. He has given them experience in his office, and has worked with medical students, college students, nurse practitioner students, high school students, and even a visiting doctor from India. Dr. Kelly believes that education is the best investment, and strives to help others learn as much as they can, so that everyone can become better, more complete people.
