Dr. Skolnick’s achievements have largely been driven by his desire to work in a field where he could help people. This desire prompted his pursuits to become a doctor and he decided on the specialty of neonatology as it would allow him to work with families. After earning a Bachelor of Science from the City University of New York in 1968, Dr. Skolnick continued at the New York University School of Medicine to receive an MD in 1972. He later earned a MPH from the University of North Carolina in 1980. After earning a medical degree, he completed a pediatric residency at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He then ventured to Duke University in the mid-1970s to partake in the neonatology fellowship. At the time, neonatology was a new area of medicine and the university was one of the few in the country offering comprehensive obstetrics and pediatrics, especially focused on improving the outcomes for women with complicated pregnancies.

After this fellowship, Dr. Skolnick returned to the Albert Einstein College of Medicine as the Director of Newborn Medicine, holding this position from 1977 to 1980. From there, his skills and expertise were tapped as the Director of Neonatology in New Jersey, eventually joining the faculty of Overlook Hospital. In 1999, Dr. Skolnick became the co-director of neonatology of the Atlantic Health System, and in 2004, the MidAtlantic Neonatology Associates. He was instrumental in the development of the MidAtlantic Neonatology Associates. The group he helped assemble is comprised of PhD scientists and neonatologists that are attracted to pre-clinical and clinical research. The focus is on the improvement of care for babies and their families in doing research. At this current venture, they are in the process of starting a neonatology fellowship.

Supplementing his lifelong dedication to the field of neonatology, Dr. Skolnick has maintained affiliation with the American Academy of Pediatrics. The skills and dedication he has shown in his work have resulted in being selected as a Top Doctor with Castle Connolly. He has also been included in numerous editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who’s Who in the East and Who’s Who in Science and Engineering.
