Robert L. Dean, MD, PhD, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in otolaryngology.

Successful over the last 20 years because of his drive to provide exceptional patient care, Dr. Dean is highly respected as an expert in the medical and surgical management and treatment of patients with diseases and disorders of the ear, nose, throat and related structures of the head and neck.  Today, he works in private practice in Tucson, Arizona, as the chief executive officer of Urgent Specialists, and he is affiliated with Clinica Amistad, Tucson Ear, Nose & Throat, the Children’s Clinic for Rehabilitative Services and the St. Elizabeth’s Health Center. Board certified by the American Academy of Otolaryngology, Dr. Dean has held additional prominent roles in his career as a board member of the Cardondelet Foothills Surgery Center and the Camp Lowell Surgery Center.

Dr. Dean entered his profession upon completing his education in the field. A graduate of the University of Arizona, he earned a Bachelor of Science in chemistry in 1990, a Master of Science in medicinal and pharmaceutical chemistry in 1993 and a PhD in medicinal and pharmaceutical chemistry in 1995. One year later, he achieved a second Master of Science from the university, this time focused on organic chemistry. In 1999, he earned an MD. Committed to his continued professional development, Dr. Dean has been very active in industry organizations throughout his career. He is a member of the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery. He is a distinguished fellow of the American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy.

To share his expertise and experience, Dr. Dean has published many written works to medical journals. Notably, he authored “Bilateral Pyriform Sinus Fistulas Presenting as Recurrent Suppurative Thyroiditis” in Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, “The Magnetic Resonance Imaging Profile of Occult Intracranial Violations Due to Sinus Surgery” in the American Journal of Otolaryngology, “Neck Abscess Secondary to Cat Scratch Disease” in ENT Journal, “Neck Mass in a 14-year-old African American Female” in the Archives of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, and “Effect of Incision and Saphenous Vein Grafting of Peyronie’s Plaque on Penile Length and Sexual Satisfaction” in the Journal of Urology. Dr. Dean’s research in his field is far-ranging and impactful, and he continues to write today.

As he looks ahead to the future, Dr. Dean intends to continue offering care in the field of otolaryngology while shifting his focus toward a new company he is establishing called Earth and Specialist. The company has been designed to solve some of the paradoxes in health care, such as to decrease cost and improve outcomes. His hope to help make health care affordable to people from all walks of life in the years to come.
