Dr. Swistel has contributed multiple articles and other written works with his industry to share his insights on a wide scale. Notably, he was the author of “Resection, Plication, Release–the RPR procedure for obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy,” “Treatment of Obstructive Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Symptoms and Gradient Resistant to First-Line Therapy with Beta-Blockade or Verapamil,” “Role of Mitral Valve Plication in the Surgical Management of Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy,” and “Does surgical relief of obstruction improve prognosis for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy?”

Dr. Swistel is an expert in coronary heart disease, minimally invasive surgery, aortic valve disease and mitral valve disease. In addition, he is world-renowned in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy for which he has invented several operations to improve the surgical therapies typically associated with the disorder. At the core of Dr. Swistel’s expertise is his education. He holds an MD from Rutgers State University, which he earned in 1979. After achieving this degree, he completed two residencies; the first was with St. Luke’s/Roosevelt Hospital in 1984, which focused on general surgery, and the second was with the Albert Einstein Montefiore Medical Center, which focused on cardiovascular surgery. Dr. Swistel then completed a fellowship with the Hackensack University Medical Center. In recognition of his professional excellence in his career, Dr. Swistel was named an ACS Fellow, an American Top Doctor four times, a Top Doctor by New York Magazine eight times, and a Top Doctor in the New York Metro Area more than a dozen times.
