David Owen Taber, MD, urological surgeon, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in urology.
An award-winning surgeon who has helped countless patients recover from kidney stones, Dr. Taber celebrates a career that earned him a place among the “Best Doctors in Texas” three times. Today, he excels in private practice at the El Paso County Medical Society, where he has been providing exceptional care since establishing the clinic in 2008. Previously, he held prominent roles in his field, including urologic surgeon for various hospitals in El Paso, TX, and chief of urology for the 130th General Hospital, Additionally, he was the chief of the medical staff at Columbia West Hospital, chief of surgery for the Sierra Medical Center, and professor of urology at Texas Tech School of Medicine. Dr. Taber is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and diplomate of the American Board of Urology.
A great point of pride for Dr. Taber is that he is a third-generation doctor in his family, with his son following in his footsteps to make it a fourth. Having known since he was young that he wanted to work in the medical field, he attended Syracuse University, where he achieved a Bachelor of Arts in 1959. From there, he earned an MD from George Washington University. He established his career early on as a lieutenant colonial of the U.S. Army Medical Corps for 10 years. Upon returning from his military service, Dr. Taber completed an internship and residency in urology at Walter Reed General Hospital. Considered an expert in his industry, he remains at the top of his field through his involvement with the Urostomy Association, where he served as an advisor, the Texas Medical Association, where he was a delegate, and the El Paso Medical Society, where he was president, secretary and executive committee member. Dr. Taber is also affiliated with the American Medical Association, the Urological Society International, the Texas Urological Society and the American Urological Association. Looking ahead, Dr. Taber intends to continue providing top care in urology while seeking new opportunities to impact his field.
