Emma Jane Laskin, MD, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in psychiatry.
As someone with a love of storytelling, Dr. Laskin felt naturally drawn to a profession that allows her to listen to the stories of other people’s lives. Driven by a desire to help others through psychiatry, she has been working with patients with a variety of needs since establishing her career in the late 1990s. Today, she serves in private practice, where she focuses on the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mental, emotional and behavioral disorders. Dr. Laskin’s practice includes psycho-dynamic and psycho-therapeutic medication management. A few of her sub-specialties include eating disorders (anorexia and bulimia) depression and bipolar disorder, and OCD. She works with patients in these areas and always sees them for no less than 45 minutes. She takes her time with each patient, whether she sees them regularly or once every couple of months. She works with psychologists and social workers in the area of medication management, and she and her team carefully listen to every patient. She has been excelling in this capacity since 2012 after having established her professionalism, integrity and reputation for excellent care for both children and adolescents. Previously, Dr. Laskin found success as a psychiatric director for the Eating Disorders Center at the North Shore-LIJ Health System.
Dr. Laskin attributes her success to her education, being very approachable, friendly and trustworthy. She prepared for her career by achieving an undergraduate degree magna cum laude from Harvard University, followed by her completion of a post-baccalaureate pre-medical degree program. From there, she earned an MD from Cornell Medical School and went on to complete an internship at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center. It was during this time that Dr. Laskin developed a strong interest in psychiatry as a focus for her medical practice. She then completed a residency in psychiatry at Zucker Hillside Hospital followed by a fellowship in general psychiatry and child and adolescent psychiatry in 2004. In recognition of her professional excellence, Dr. Laskin was honored by Vitals on numerous occasions. She earned a Patients’ Choice 5th Anniversary Award, two Compassionate Doctor Recognitions and five Patients Choice Awards.
In the coming years, Dr. Laskin hopes to teach. Currently, she is on the faculty of Hofstra Northwell School of Medicine at Hofstra University. She also hopes to stay in private practice and continue to provide quality services for her patients. Dr. Laskin enjoys working with other psychiatrists and will continue to do so in order to stay abreast of the industry’s changes and trends.
