Eva Chalas, MD, physicians director for the Center for Cancer Care at NYU Winthrop Hospital, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in obstetrics and gynecology.

With a strong focus on providing excellent experiences for her patients, Dr. Chalas is highly respected as a physician in women’s health. She was inspired to enter the field of medicine due to her own childhood experiences under the care of a pediatric specialist when she had a kidney infection at the age of 10. From then on, she was drawn to the medical profession, as she wanted to care for others the way that she had been cared for as a child. To prepare for her career, Dr. Chalas earned an MD from the School of Medicine at Stony Brook University in 1981. She became a diplomate in gynecologic oncology by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1990. Her first leadership role in medicine was as a professor and director of gynecologic oncology divisions in the department of obstetrics, gynecology and reproductive medicine at Stony Brook University. In her career, Dr. Chalas has been recognized for her work in prominent roles including managing partner and president of the Long Island Gynecologic Oncology Associates, PC, as well as director of clinical cancer services, professor and vice chairman of the department of obstetrics-gynecology at NYU Winthrop Hospital in Mineola, NY. Today, she excels in her role as physicians director for the Center for Cancer Care at NYU Winthrop Hospital. She has been in this position for two years.

In addition to the impactful work she has done in academia and clinical settings, Dr. Chalas has contributed to her industry through her involvement in professional organizations. Notably, she served as chairman of district II of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, member of the development committee for the Society of Gynecologic Oncology, secretary-treasurer for the Society of Gynecologic Oncology, board member of the Society of Gynecologic Oncology, and member-at-large for the Foundation for Women’s Cancer. Further, Dr. Chalas has been incredibly involved with the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. Distinguished as a fellow of the organization, she has served in roles including chairman of the Council of District Chairs and executive board member and now as President Elect. In recognition of her professional excellence in her career, Dr. Chalas was the recipient of an Excellence in Teaching Award from the Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics, a Top Doctors Award from Newsday, and a Who’s Who Lifetime Achievement Award. As she looks ahead to the future, Dr. Chalas intends to continue providing top care as a doctor.
