With more than 45 years of professional experience, Dr. Parker has been a cardiologist with Sentara Cardiology Specialists since 2013. Prior to obtaining his current role, he was a cardiologist with Cardiologist Consultant, LTD from 1987 to 2013, and with Norfolk Diagnostics Clinic from 1979 to 1987. Earlier in his career, he was a fellow in cardiology with Duke University Medical Center from 1976 to 1979 and a resident in medicine with Ohio State University from 1973 to 1976.
Dr. Parker began his career as a student at Denison University, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in biology in 1970. He then joined Ohio State University, earning a Doctor of Medicine, cum laude, in 1973. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine and the National Board of Medical Examiner, and he is licensed as a physician in the state of Virginia. A respected voice in his areas of interest, Dr. Parker has been an active leader in his community. A fellow of the American College of Cardiology, he is a member of the American Heart Association, the Norfolk Academy of Medicine, the American Medical Informatics Association, and the Society for Medical Decision Making. He has also been affiliated with the Duke University Cardiology Fellows Society, the Duke Heart Center Advisory Board, and the American Medical Association.
