With 55 years of professional experience, Dr. Weiss has been a senior consultant and medical director of the Foundation for Research in Bronchial Asthma and Related Diseases since 1988. In addition to his primary roles, he was a senior pulmonary research scientist with Brigham and Women’s Hospital from 1989 to 2004. He previously held a number of positions with St. Vincent Hospital, including senior physician in 1990, acting medical director from 1985 to 1987, associate medical director from 1984 to 1985, and director of respiratory diseases from 1971 to 1989.
From 1977 to 1990, Dr. Weiss was a professor at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, and from 1969 to 1971 he was associate chief of medicine at Tufts Medical Service at Boston City Hospital, where he was also an associate physician from 1967 to 1973, and director of the pulmonary physiology laboratory from 1964 to 1971. Earlier in his career, he was a senior attending physician with Boston City Hospital and senior research associate with Tufts Lung Station from 1964 to 1971 and a fellow of the National Heart Institute from 1964 to 1966.
Dr. Weiss began his career as a student at Northeastern University, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in biology and chemistry in 1955. He continued his studies with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, completing a Master of Science in biochemistry in 1957. He then joined Albert Einstein College of Medicine, earning a Doctor of Medicine in 1961. He subsequently held an internship with King’s County Hospital from 1961 to 1962 and a residency with Boston City Hospital from 1962 to 1964. Dr. Weiss is a diplomate in pulmonary diseases of the American Board of Internal Medicine.
