Dr. Yoshifumi Naka has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in cardiology.
An award-winning surgeon and educator, Dr. Naka celebrates a career that began in 1986. He came to prominence in Japan after achieving an MD and PhD from Osaka University. He completed a residency at the university’s hospital, followed by a three-year research and clinical fellowship. Thereafter, he came to the United States and stepped into a postdoctoral research fellow role with the department of physiology at Columbia University. Today, Dr. Naka is an assistant professor of surgery at Columbia University and director of the cardiac transplantation and mechanical circulatory support program at NY Presbyterian Hospital. He believes that he has been successful due to the supportive environment at Columbia University, his incredible mentors, and his commitment to remaining consistent and focused.
For his tremendous work, Dr. Naka was honored as a Herbert Irving assistant professor of surgical treatment of atrial fibrillation by Columbia University Physicians and Surgeons. He has been the recipient of a grant from the Foundation for Advanced of Cardiac Therapies, a grant from National Institutes of Health, and a KO-8 grant from Vein Graft Preservation Thrombosis. Dr. Naka remains at the top of his field through his memberships with ASAIO, the Society University Surgeons, the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation, the New York Society of Thoracic Surgeons, and the American Heart Association. As he looks to the future, he plans to achieve continued success in his roles while seeking out new opportunities in his field.
