With nearly 65 years of professional experience, Dr. Rocco has been an anesthesiologist at Harvard Vanguard Medical Center since 1994. Prior to obtaining his current role, he was director of pain treatment at Brigham and Women’ Hospital from 1984 to 1992, having been an anesthesiologist since 1979. Earlier in his career, he was chief of anesthesia at Exeter Hospital from 1959 to 1979, chief of anesthesiology at West Roxbury Hospital.
Dr. Rocco began his career as a student at Boston University, where he completed a Bachelor of Arts in 1945. He then joined the University of Michigan, completing a Master of Science in chemistry in 1946. He continued his studies with Tufts University, earning a Doctor of Medicine in 1950, and he was a National Institutes of Health Fellow at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital from 1955 to 1956. Dr. Rocco is a diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners and the American Board of Anesthesiologists.
A respected voice in his areas of interest, Dr. Rocco has been an active leader in his community. He has contributed more than 50 articles to professional journals, and he is the former director of the American Lung Association. A fellow of the American College of Anesthesiologists, he is a former visiting scientist for the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions. In 2014, Dr. Rocco was the most read orthopedic surgeon according to Doximity in Boston. In addition to anesthesiology, he also provided epidurals for back pain.
