Title: Neonatologist
Location: Houston, Texas, United States

Peter Michael Haney, MD, PhD, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in neonatology.

A fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Society of Pediatric Research, Dr. Haney has been highly regarded in his field since establishing his career in 1986. Grateful to be able to provide care to infants and their mothers, he excels today in his roles as staff neonatologist and chairman of the ethics committee at the Woman’s Hospital of Texas. Dr. Haney has shared his expertise in these capacities since 2009, after achieving success in noteworthy roles including staff neonatologist for Houston Neonatal-Perinatal Physicians, assistant professor of pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine, director of the Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine Fellowship at Washington University, and assistant professor of cell biology at the same institution. Early on in his career, he came to prominence as an instructor of pediatrics and assistant professor of pediatrics.

Dr. Haney entered the medical profession because he was inspired by his mother, who was a nurse. While pursuing his education, he was interested in medical science, so he earned both a Ph.D. in biochemistry, as well as an MD from Case Western University. He completed an internship and residency in pediatrics at Johns Hopkins University Hospital, followed by a fellowship in newborn medicine at the University of Washington. Dr. Haney chose to specialize in neonatology because he liked how, although it was a specialty with very sick babies, he was able to take care of the entire patient and all aspects of their health. “Many medical specialties focus on one specific area of the body or type of condition, but in neonatology, it’s not just the liver, or not just the blood, or not just the lungs, it’s the entire patient,” Dr. Haney says, adding that he is constantly driven to provide the best care possible for his patients. To support his career further, he became a diplomate of the American Board of Pediatrics and the sub-board for Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine.

In recognition of his professional excellence, Dr. Haney received a First Award from the National Institutes of Health, a New Investigator Award from the Department of Defense Breast Cancer Research Program, and a National Research service award from the National Institutes of Health. He continues to be involved in his industry through his memberships with the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Society for Pediatric Research. As he looks to the future, Dr. Haney plans to work toward continued success for his patients.
