Dr. Yadalam chose psychiatry because he felt that there was a great need in the field at that time. His career journey led him to Lake Charles, Louisiana, albeit accidentally. Since earning an MD from Kasturba Medical College in 1977 and moving to the United States, Dr. Yadalam has been able to help hundreds of patients. Once in the states, he worked in a residency at the University of Nebraska until 1983. Following this was a clinical fellowship in psychopharmacology with the Medical College of Pennsylvania before becoming an instructor and then assistant professor at the institution. From 1987 to 1991, he served the college as the Director of the Neuropsychiatry Clinic.

The next leg of his career brought Dr. Yadalam to the Institute for Neuropsychiatry in Louisiana to serve as an associate director from 1991 to 1996. In 1994, he picked up the additional role of Medical Director of the Institute for Neuropsychiatry and worked in this respect until 2004. Since 2001, Dr. Yadalam has brought his expertise and experience as the CEO and Medical Director of Lake Charles Clinical Trials. In addition, he has served as a principal investigator of more than 300 trials in schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major depression, Alzheimer’s disease and autism.

As vice president of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, Dr. Yadalam and his colleagues built a homeless shelter for mentally ill homeless people. The shelter houses 24 people to this day and it is one thing he considers to be the highlight of his career, thus far. Furthermore, Dr. Yadalam co-authored Drug Induced Dysfunction in Psychiatry in 1992 and has contributed articles to professional journals throughout his career. He is a grantee of the National Institute of Mental Health and received the Young Investigator Award from the International Congress of Schizophrenia Research. He has maintained professional affiliation as a fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and as a member of the American College of Clinical Pharmacology and the National Alliance of the Mentally Ill.
