Georg Noren, Neurosurgeon at Rhode Island Hospital, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in neurosurgery.
With nearly 40 years of professional experience, Dr. Noren was a member of the Rhode Island Hospital Department of Neurosurgery from 1994 to 2011. Prior to obtaining this role, he was a member of the department of neurosurgery at Karolinska Institute from 1979 to 1994. Earlier in his career, he was a resident in the department of neurosurgery at the institute from 1972 to 1979. Dr. Noren was inspired to go into medicine because the field interested him at an early age knowing he could help so many people through his work. He is the only doctor in his family.
Dr. Noren began his career as a student at the Karolinska Institute, where he obtained a Doctor of Medicine in 1971. He continued his studies with the school, earning a PhD in 1982. He has been licensed as a physician and a specialist in neurosurgery by the Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare. A highlight of Dr. Noren’s career is the publication of his PhD thesis in 1982. The thesis is based on the applications of Gamma knife surgery methods, and the early use of the procedure to remove specific brain tumors (vestibular schwannomas or acoustic neuroma). In 1993, he received the Mahaley Clinical Research Award and he has also received the Scientific Branch Award. From 1962 to 1978, he served as a Second Lieutenant in the Swedish Army.
