Passionate about pursuing a career revolving around helping others, Dr. Shelley decided to become a dermatologist after being inspired by her dermatology professor in medical school. After earning a Bachelor of Arts from Mount Holyoke College in 1962, Dr. Shelley earned a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Missouri in 1966 and achieved certification from the American Board of Dermatology in 1971. Dr. Shelley completed a postdoctoral fellowship with Stanford University from 1970 to 1971 and became an assistant professor of dermatology with the institution from 1971 to 1974. They submitted 30 pages to a medical journal called Cutis and their work was published in the journal from 1990 to 1995.
