David Stuart Boyer, MD, Senior Partner at Retina-Vitreous Associates Medical Group, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in ophthalmology.
Influenced by his father to delve into the medical profession, Dr. Boyer decided upon the specialty of ophthalmology early on in his career. Earning a Doctor of Medicine from Chicago Medical School in 1972, he subsequently completed an internship and residency at the University of Southern California County Hospital for four years and a fellowship at the Wills Eye Hospital and Retina-Vitreous Associates Medical Group for one year. Remaining with the medical group, he has been serving as a senior partner since 1977.
Dr. Boyer is a prominent figure in his field, having presented the first announcement for the treatment of diabetic retinopathy in San Diego, CA. It was also the very first time it was presented before the American Diabetes Association. A former board member and president of the Los Angeles chapter of the association, he has also spent his spare time serving as a clinical professor of ophthalmology at the University of Southern California School of Medicine since 2008.
Having thoroughly enjoyed his fruitful career, Dr. Boyer finds taking care of his patients to be most rewarding. In an effort to remain abreast of developments within the industry, he maintains affiliation with the Discovery Fund for Eye Research, the American Society of Retinal Surgeons, the Macula Society and the Retina Society. He also sat on the board of directors of the ophthalmology program of the University of Southern California Alumni Association.
During his tenure, Dr. Boyer has garnered several honors and accolades. Presented with the Jules Stein Living Tribute Award from Retinitis Pigmentosa International, he also received the David Shaw Award from Good Samaritan Hospital, Outstanding Alumnus Awards from the department of ophthalmology at the University of South Carolina and the Doheny Eye Institute, and the Honor Award and Senior Honor Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology. In addition, he also received the Honor Award from the American Society of Retinal Surgeons, and was featured in the eighth edition of Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare and the 67th through 70th editions of Who’s Who in America.
Married with one child and one grandchild, Dr. Boyer spends his spare time traveling and playing with his granddaughter. He is a native of Chicago, IL, and currently resides in Beverly Hills, CA.
