Utilizing 50 years of practiced industry experience, Dr. Williams is a respected physician and educator who has been serving the Tucson VA Hospital as an attending physician since 1987. While serving in this role, he was an assistant professor of radiology at the University of Arizona from 1987 to 1992 and an associate professor of radiology from 1992 to 2010, attaining emeritus status that same year. Prior to these roles, he was a clinical instructor in nuclear medicine at Harvard University from 1985 to 1987 and at the Oregon Health and Science University from 1984 to 1985, having also been a staff physician at the Portland VA Hospital from 1984 to 1985. Earlier in his career, he served as a staff scientist at the California Institute of Technology from 1974 to 1979, an assistant professor of chemistry at California State University from 1970 to 1971, and a senior scientist at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory of California Institute of Technology from 1968 to 1974.

To prepare for his career, Dr. Williams pursued formal education at the University of Missouri, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in 1963. Thereafter, he received a Doctor of Philosophy from Purdue University in 1969. After gaining prominence in the field, he returned to his studies at Yale University, where he obtained a Doctor of Medicine in 1980. In 1981, he served Good Samaritan Hospital in Portland, OR, as an intern, having subsequently been a resident in nuclear medicine at the University of Oregon VA Medical Center from 1982 to 1984. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Nuclear Medicine and the National Board of Medical Examiners.

A former radiation safety officer and clinical instructor at the Brockton-West Roxbury VA Hospital in Massachusetts from 1985 to 1987, Dr. Williams has contributed a plethora of articles to medical journals regarding atomic physics and nuclear medicine. He was a reviewer of the journal Investigative Radiology in 1990, as well as the journal Lymphology since 1990. In order to remain abreast of developments in the field, he maintains affiliation with the American College of Nuclear Physicians, the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging, and the Arizona Nuclear Physicians Association, where he served as secretary-treasurer in 1991.

As a testament to his success, Dr. Williams has been a frequent grantee of multiple facilities, including the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, Queen’s University in Northern Ireland, the University of Arizona and the National Institutes of Health. He was previously selected for inclusion in the 23rd and 24th editions of Who’s Who in the West, published in 1992 and 1993, respectively.

Married to Patricia Ann Edwards since 1968, Dr. Williams is the proud father of two sons, Steven and David. In his spare time, he enjoys amateur radio, stamp collecting and playing ping pong.
