Dr. Brown has also received a Senior Honor Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He has served as the Chief Medical Officer and Director of Comparative Effectiveness & Pharmacoeconomics with the Center Value Based Medicine since 2006. Dr. Brown has been a physician with Mid Atlantic Retina since 1981 and the Chief of Retina Service at Wills Eye Hospital since 2003.
Dr. Brown co-authored ‘Evidence-Based to Value-Based Medicine’ with his wife, Dr. Melissa Brown, and Dr. Sanjay Sharma. It was published by the American Medical Association Press with a foreword by Thomas Scully, Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. In addition to this text, he has authored or edited 12 textbooks and more than 600 scientific writings. Dr. Brown prepared for a career in this health care by earning a Bachelor of Science from Colgate University in 1971. He continued at the State University of New York Upstate Medical Center to receive a MD in 1975 and an MBA in strategic management at St. Joseph’s University in 1998. Dr. Brown has maintained professional affiliation with the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Pennsylvania Medical Society, the Pennsylvania Academy of Ophthalmology, the Wills Eye Ex-Resident Society, the Wills Eye Hospital Society, the Ophthalmologic Club of Philadelphia, Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha.
