Spending the entirety of his career at Henry Ford Hospital beginning in 1963, he retired as senior staff physician in 2005. He delved into his profession due to the influence of his father, who was also a physician, and he wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps.
Dr. Mitchell holds a Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Medicine from Duke University. After obtaining his medical degree, he served in an internship at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, from 1955 to 1957. Subsequent to this position, he served as captain in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959, where he was in an orthopedic unit in Germany. Thereafter, he completed a residency in orthopedics at Massachusetts General Hospital/Children’s Hospital from 1959 to 1963.
Among the notable highlights of his career, Dr. Mitchell recalls being part of a team which reattached an arm to a young boy in the 1960s as a crowning achievement. He has maintained affiliation with the American Medical Association, the Michigan Medical Society, the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, and the International Society of Orthopedics and Traumatology. As a testament to his success, Dr. Mitchell has been highlighted in the first edition of Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare and the 21st edition of Who’s Who in the Midwest.
