John Ferguson, President at North America Trauma Association has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the field of medicine.
Overcoming personal trauma at an early age, Dr. Ferguson has found immense success and joy as a physician. Following his father’s untimely passing, Dr. Ferguson resolved to attended medical school, earning a Doctor of Medicine as well as a Doctor of Philosophy in Parasitology from the University of Oklahoma. He has dedicated the majority of his career to DCH Regional Hospital in Tuscaloosa, AL, where he has been chief of staff and chief of surgery. He has also served as the chair of several committees within the institution such as the professional activities committee, the patient care committee and the intensive care unit committee. Though he no longer works full-time, Dr. Ferguson graciously offers his expertise as a physician advisor for the hospital.
Dedicated to his country, Dr. Ferguson served in the US military in multiple capacities. He has been a part of the medical advisory council of the Army National Guard from 1998 to 2002, hospital commander for the 109th Evacuation Hospital and retired colonel of the Alabama Army National Guard. He considers his time with the military to be a career highlight as he was able to practice medicine differently that he had previously done and develop leadership skills that he used in other positions. An invaluable member of the medical community, Dr. Ferguson has been the president of the North American Trauma Association and has been presented honors including, but not limited to, the Operation Desert Storm Medal and the National Guard OCS Erickson Trophy. A testament to his notoriety and excellence, Dr. Ferguson has been lauded with The Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award and has been featured in multiple editions of Who’s Who in America.
