Influenced by her mother, who was a Professor at UCLA, and trained in microbiology and immunology at the University of California, Los Angeles, Dr. Porter has always held an interest in human behavior, cognition and memory. Earning a Bachelor of Science in microbiology and Doctor of Medicine from the University of California, Los Angeles, in 1990 and 1994, respectively, she also holds a UCNS certificate in dementia, neurobehavior and neuropsychiatry and is a diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Since 2002, she has been a clinical professor of neurology in the department of neurology at the University of California, Los Angeles, having previously served as chief of the division of neurology at the university from 2002 to 2015.

Alongside her primary endeavors, Dr. Porter has been the Director of Clinical Programs for the Mary S. Easton Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center at the University of California, Los Angeles from 2015-2018. She is currently the Director of Dementia, Neurobehavioral and Neurocognitive Program at the Pacific Brain Health Center, Pacific Neuroscience Institute at Providence St. John’s Health Center in Santa Monica, CA. She is also a Professor of Translational Neuroscience and Neurotherapeutics at the John Wayne Cancer Center, Providence St. John’s Health Center in Santa Monica. She is additionally a member of the neuro-behavior science subsection of the American Academy of Neurology. A researcher and contributor of multiple articles to peer-reviewed journals in her field, she has conducted myriad research in dementia and Alzheimer’s disease and has been named a Fellow of the American Neurological Association, which recognizes outstanding academic achievement in the field of Neurology.

In order to remain aware of recent developments within the industry, Dr. Porter maintains her membership in the American Medical Association and the American Academy of Neurology. In recognition of her distinguished achievements, she was selected for inclusion in the Leading Physicians of the World from 2011 to 2017 and was selected as a Top Neurologist by the International Association of Healthcare Professionals from 2011 to 2015. Registered with Cambridge Who’s Who: Registry of Executive and Professional Women, she was inducted in the Top Women Southern California Super Doctors and the National Association of Professional Women from 2011 to 2018. Notably, she has been highlighted in numerous editions of Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare and Who’s Who in the World.
