Hyeong Kim, Dentist and Educator, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in dentistry.
Dr. Kim was accepted into Columbia University in 1998 as a PhD student in biochemistry and molecular biophysics. He started conducting basic scientific research; studying different kinds of bacteria, how they survive and the mechanisms of survival. While he was completing a PhD in this subject, the dean of Columbia’s College of Dental Medicine, Ira Lamster, DDS, was recruiting a basic science researcher to promote in the field of dentistry. Dr. Kim was interested in clinical research at the time so he sent an email to the dental college and was accepted as a student and a postdoctoral research scientist. This was the first time that a student had done that program so the school set up a special six-year program for him, which allowed him to work part-time as a research assistant and part-time as a student. He began in 2004 and finished in 2010.
Dr. Kim opened the doors to his firm, Rego Park Dental Care, in 2013. He has taught at his alma mater, the Columbia University College of Dental Medicine, as an assistant clinical professor in dentistry since 2012. Right after earning the DDS from Columbia University, Dr. Kim completed a residency in advanced education in general dentistry with the university. In his career, he has published four first author papers and three-second author papers. Furthermore, Dr. Kim earned a Bachelor of Arts in molecular and cell biology from the University of California, Berkeley in 1997 and a Master of Arts in biochemistry at Columbia University in 2000. He also has a Master of Philosophy in Biochemistry from Columbia University, which he received in 2001.
It’s evident that Dr. Kim is destined to continue doing great things in his career given the nature of his previous work in research and dentistry. He was largely motivated to succeed due to his father passing away when he was young. Dr. Kim knew in order to provide for his family he needed to stay the course and work hard. In his dental practice, this is reflected in the way he helps every patient in their oral health, providing general and cosmetic dentistry. He maintains professional affiliation with the American Society for Microbiology, the American Student Dental Association and the New York Academy of Sciences.
