Luis Raul Rivero, MD, MPH, Aerospace Physician and Military Officer at the U.S. Army Cadet Command, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in military medicine.
With nearly 30 years of professional experience in the military, Dr. Rivero has been serving as a surgeon with the U.S. Army Cadet Command in Fort Knox, KY, since 2016, having previously been a surgeon with Special Operations Command South in the Homestead Air Reserve Base in Florida from 2013 to 2016 and a deputy commander of clinical services with the Weed Army Community Hospital in Fort Irwin, CA, from 2011 to 2013. Prior to these illustrious roles, he served in the health care industry within the military at several clinics and bases, including in Hawaii, Arizona, Washington and Puerto Rico, as well as in Iraq and Germany. He commenced his career as a second lieutenant in the United States Army in 1990 and as a general medical officer with the U.S. Army Health Clinic in Darmstadt, Germany, in 1995.
To prepare for his illustrious career, Dr. Rivero pursued a formal education at Georgetown University in 1990, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in biology. He subsequently attended the Universidad Central del Caribe Medical School in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, receiving a Doctor of Medicine, cum laude, in 1994. From 1994 to 1995, he completed an internship in surgery at the University District Hospital with the University of Puerto Rico in San Juan. After obtaining some hands-on experience in the field, he earned a Master of Public Health from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston in 2005. He has been certified in preventive and aerospace medicine by the American Board of Preventive Medicine since 2007 and is licensed to practice medicine in Puerto Rico.
As a testament to his professional success, Dr. Rivero has accrued several accolades throughout his impressive career. He has received a multitude of awards through the military, including the Army Superior Unit Award, the NATO Medal, the Humanitarian Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Armed Forces Service Medal, and the Army Commendation Medal with Two Oak Leaf Clusters. In addition, he received the Meritorious Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star, and the Bronze Star with One Oak Leaf Cluster. Likewise, he was the recipient of the Joint Meritorious Service Medal and the Order of St. Michael Bronze Award. Notably, Dr. Rivero has been selected for inclusion in several editions of Who’s Who in America and the 26th edition of Who’s Who in the World.
