Nachum Samet, Dental Educator, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in dentistry and research.
When deciding what medical professional to go into Dr. Samet’s own dentist helped him make up his mind by saying, “I try to tell myself that I treat patients that have teeth, not teeth that have patients.” This statement had a lasting impact on Dr. Samet, who ultimately decided to pursue the field and treat his own patients in the same manner. In his current endeavors, he serves as an Assistant Professor of Restorative Dentistry & Biomaterials at Harvard University, a position he has held since 2006. He is also a Director of Doctoral Prosthodontics at the institution and came into that role in 2003. Since 2018, he has been the Vice President of Research for MIS Dental Implants. Earlier in his career, Dr. Samet was the Director of Multidisciplinary Dental Clinic at the Maccabi Healthcare Organization, and taught and led programs at Hebrew University.
Dr. Samet earned a DMD from Hebrew University in 1987. He considers his book, “Classification and Prognosis Evaluation of Individual Teeth – a Comprehensive Approach” as one of his top career highlights. This book has been adopted as an integral and mandatory article for dental education in pre-doctorate and post-doctorate programs in more than 150 dental schools al around the world. The book was among the most-downloaded articles on ResearchGate for many years. His passion for the dental field is also shown in his volunteer work, and he dedicates his time to treating people with disabilities or a low income with dentistry and clinical work.
In his career, Dr. Samet has earned recognition on many different occasions. These include the recent Honorary Professorship he received from the University of China in 2018 and the Visiting Professor Appointment from the University of Romania in 2017. He received Best Teacher Awards Harvard University on numerous occasions. Furthermore, he has received the Dean’s Award from Hebrew University, the Best Lecturer Prize from the Israel Society of Prosthetic Dentistry and the Rector’s Award for Best Teaching. He has maintained professional affiliation with the International Association of Dental Research, the American Dental Education Association, the American Academy of Periodontology, the Academy of Osseointegration, the Israel Society of Prosthetic Dentistry, the Israel Dental Association and Omicron Kappa Upsilon.
