Ramy Hanna, Nephrologist at UCLAHealth, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in internal medicine and kidney health.
Dr. Hanna originally intended to follow in his father’s footsteps and become an engineer. Showing an early interest in mathematics, it seemed likely this would be the case as he started his higher education. During his undergraduate years, he happened to enroll in biology and genetics courses, which changed the trajectory of his career. Dr. Hanna sidelined his projected career as an engineer and made the decision to pursue medicine. His grew fascinated by how diseases and illnesses are not random but are encoded in people’s DNA. This interest grew into his life’s work, and he is now an expert in general nephrology, internal medicine and hypertension.
Dr. Hanna first earned a Bachelor of Science in microbiology immunology and molecular genetics, graduating summa cum laude in 2003. He continued his education to receive an MD from the University of California, San Diego in 2007. Upon graduating, he became an intern at the Olive View UCLA Medical Center, following it up with a nephrology fellowship at UCLA Health. From 2012 to 2015, Dr. Hanna became an attending nephrologist at Cedars-Sinai before spending a couple of years in private practice and with the Long Beach Memorial Medical Center. Since 2017, he has dedicated his time to preparing future generations of medical professionals as a clinical instructor with UCLA Health.
In recognition of his success, Dr. Hanna cites hard work as the main contributor. He looks toward the future with excitement, endeavoring to have his research funded by highly regarded organizations and maintain a robust clinical practice, while educating and presenting contributions to public policy. Dr. Hanna is a fellow of the American Society of Nephrology and is certified with the ABIM, ACLS and BLS.
