Frank A. Manthey, a Retired Physician, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in health care.
Interested in medicine since he was a child, Dr. Manthey is thrilled to have dedicated more than four decades to the field. He started his journey by earning a Bachelor of Science from Fordham University in 1955 and an MD from SUNY Upstate Medical Center in 1958, and by serving as a captain in the U.S. Air Force Medical Corps between 1956 and 1962. Dr. Manthey also garnered hands-on experience as an intern at SUNY Upstate Medical Center and as a resident in anesthesiology at Yale-New Haven Medical Center. He furthered his training by obtaining diplomas from the American Board of Anesthesiology and the American Board of Medical Examiners.
Dr. Manthey ultimately spent 15 years in anesthesiology before deciding he wanted to have more personal interaction with patients. To achieve that goal, he joined a private practice in Missouri as a physician and spent four years in the role. He then opened the Manthey Medical Clinic in Kentucky, where remained as the director until his retirement in 2010.
When Dr. Manthey wasn’t engaged clinically, he enjoyed using his skills to help out his peers and community. Some notable positions include senior medical examiner of the Federal Aviation Administration, assistant clinical professor of anesthesiology at the Yale School of Medicine, consultant of the Connecticut Department of Aeronautics, vice president of the Northeast Chapter of the Flying Physicians Association, Inc., and as an associate fellow of the Aerospace Medical Association. Additionally, Dr. Manthey contributed numerous articles to professional journals and was a member of the Kentucky Medical Association. Even though he no longer works in the field, he remains involved as the medical director of the Todd County Board of Health.
In Dr. Manthey’s spare time, he enjoys collecting stamps and coins, auto restoration, skiing, and flying. He has been to 48 of the 50 states by airplane.
