Terence M. Hammer, Assistant Professor of Family Practice at the University of California, Los Angeles, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Family Medicine.

When Dr. Terence Hammer was a freshman in high school, he came home one day to find his mother passed out on the floor. Panicked, he called the family doctor, who soon came to the house. Seeing the doctor work, and how much the doctor helped his family, Dr. Hammer knew then that he wanted to be a doctor as well, and he couldn’t be happier with the long and distinguished career that he’s had. He is currently an assistant professor of family practice at the University of California, Los Angeles, a position he has held since 2014. Prior to this, he was a private practice physician for over 30 years, specializing in family medicine. Starting out with the Redondo Beach Medical Group in 1977, he then worked at Family Practice Associates from 1981 to 1996, and the Medical Institute Little Co. of Mary Hospital from 1996 to 2008.

Dr. Hammer graduated from the University of Illinois in 1968, receiving a bachelor of science. He continued his education at Stanford University, where he received an MD in 1973. He then completed an internship at LAC+USC Medical Center, and from 1975 to 1977, held a residency in Family Medicine at Contra Costa Medical Services.

For his invaluable and committed service to family medicine, Dr. Hammer has been honored and recognized numerous times throughout his career. He was named Preceptor of the Year by the Department of Family Practice of USC Keck School of Medicine in 2013, won a Patient’s Choice Award in 2010, and in 2002 he was named one of America’s Top Family Doctors by the Consumers’ Research Council of America. In addition, Dr. Hammer has been featured in Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, and Who’s Who in the World. He maintains membership in several professional organizations, such as the American College of Physician Executives, and in 1991 he became the Founding President of the Premier Health Medical Group.
