Dr. Holtz has been a dedicated medical professional for nearly four decades, attributing his initial interest in the field to his uncle, who was a physician. It was clear to Dr. Holtz that there were no other career paths for him as the field of medicine was in his view from an early age. In pursuit of this endeavor, he first earned a Bachelor of Arts from New York University and followed the degree up with an MD from the University of Cincinnati in 1969. Following this, Dr. Holtz interned at the Cincinnati General Hospital, completed two residencies in internal medicine and neurology at Emory University.
Since 2006, Dr. Holtz has served as the Medical Director of Wellstar Health Systems. He has also taught Emory University in the capacity of Clinical Associate Professor since 1997. The same year he became involved with a private practice, focusing on neurology. In addition to these positions, Dr. Holtz has been an adjunct professor in the Department of Nursing at Kennesaw State University since 1997, and has also been a consultant for the Georgia Medical Care Foundation for Neurology.
Dr. Holtz has maintained professional affiliation throughout his career. These affiliations have aided in professional development and include serving as the President for the Georgia Neurological Society from 1990 to 1992. He has also been a member of the American Academy of Neurology and Alpha Omega Alpha. In 2009, he was recognized with a Safety and Quality Award and in 2013 an Excellence in Leadership Award, both from Wellstar. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Sleep Medicine and the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
