A native of Wyoming, Dr. Russell-Jenkins knew he wanted to be a doctor from a young age. Attending the University of New Mexico, he earned his Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Medicine. Soon thereafter, he completed a residency at Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane, WA, for three years and a psychiatric residency at Spokane Advanced Clinician Track for two years.
Since 2011, Dr. Russell-Jenkins has been a medical director and chief medical officer of the inpatient unit at Windhaven Psychiatric Hospital, where he advises and leads a team of physicians on matters of mental health. Windhaven Psychiatric Hospital is a 24-hour care facility that provides clients compassion and services with a wide array of psychiatric disorders, such as bipolar disorder and other mood disorders, schizophrenia, clinical depression, and severe anxiety. Prior to his current appointment, Dr. Russell-Jenkins was a staff physician at the Southern Arizona VA Health Care System with the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs from 2007 to 2011. Previously, he served in the United States Army, to which he attributes his profound success because it taught him how to be interested, challenged and entertained by the field. Looking toward the future, Dr. Russell-Jenkins hopes to still be practicing psychiatry.
