Anthony D. Ivankovich, a Retired Anesthesiologist, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in health care.

Recognized as an expert in anesthesiology, Dr. Ivankovich is proud of his contributions to the field. He started out as an instructor of anesthesiology at the Pritzker School of Medicine at the University of Chicago, and quickly progressed to roles like assistant professor of anesthesiology at the Stritch School of Medicine at Loyola University, associate professor of anesthesiology at the University of Chicago, faculty at the School of Medicine at Cook County Postgraduate, and professor of anesthesiology at Rush Medical College at Rush University Medical Center. During this time, Dr. Ivankovich was also serving in clinical positions like chief of operating room services and chief of surgery at the 801st General Hospital of the U.S. Army Reserve in Illinois, director of anesthesia research and attending anesthesiologist at the Stritch School of Medicine at Loyola University, and consultant in anesthesiology for Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children (now Shriners Hospital for Children). He published his findings in a variety of papers, articles, and books, including “Nitroprusside and Other Short-Acting Hypotensive Agents,” “Perspective in High Frequency Ventilation,” “Current Controversies in Thoracic Surgery,” and “Anesthesia and ENT Surgery.” In 1980, Dr. Ivankovich became the director of the Rush Pain Center and the chairman of anesthesiology at Rush University Medical Center. Although he retired in 2006, he remains involved with the institution as a trustee.

Dr. Ivankovich prepared for his endeavors by earning an MD from the University of Zagreb in Croatia in 1963 and by becoming a licensed physician in the state of Illinois and a diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology. He then garnered experience as a resident in internal medicine at the County Hospital of Nunberg in the Federal Republic of Germany, a rotating intern at Edgewater Hospital in Illinois, and a resident in anesthesiology at the University of Chicago Hospitals. To keep in touch with his peers and professional community, he joined prominent organizations like the American Medical Association, the International Association for the Study of Pain, the International Anesthesia Research Society, the American Society for Anesthesiologists, the American Heart Association, and the American College of Chest Physicians.
