With more than 40 years of professional experience, Dr. Brown has been the chief executive officer of the Hospital Planning and Resource Company since 1992 and the Risk/Benefit Management Company since 1990. In addition, he has served as the managing director of Brown & Greenfield since 1989. Prior to obtaining his current roles, he was of counsel with Bello, Lapire & Casone from 1984 to 1988, chief executive officer of Quality Health International from 1985 to 1987, and a psychiatrist in private practice from 1979 to 1980. Earlier in his career, Dr. Brown was the medical director of Psychiatric and Counseling Associated from 1977 to 1978.
Dr. Brown began his career as a student at the University of Rochester, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in 1967. He continued his studies at the University of California, Berkeley, with a Master of Public Health in 1971, and he completed a Master of Public Health at Stanford University in 1973. He subsequently joined the Yale University School of Medicine for a psychiatry residency from 1974 to 1977, simultaneously earning a Juris Doctor with the School of Law in 1976. Dr. Brown is recognized as a diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Inc.
Dr. Brown initially began his career with the intent of becoming a heart surgeon. Developing an interest in chronic pain and public health, he was tasked with drafting legislation for the California assembly. Renowned attorney Alan Dershowitz sought him out, and mentored him in pursuing a career in law in conjunction with his healthcare aspirations. He utilized his joint expertises throughout his career, and continues to consult in healthcare management, assumptions analysis, and as a neuropsychology expert witness.
A respected voice in his fields, Dr. Brown has been affiliated with numerous professional organizations. A fellow of the American Orthopsychiatrist Association, he is also a member of the American College of Forensic Psychology, the Association of the Trial Lawyers of America, the American Public Health Association, and Phi Beta Kappa. The coauthor of “Approaching the Bench,” he has also contributed numerous articles to professional journals.
In his free time, Dr. Brown enjoys scuba diving, chess, tennis, squash, and writing.
