Betty J. Edwards, Obstetrician-Gynecologist at Champions Women’s Center, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in obstetrics and gynecology.
Amassing nearly 40 years of professional experience, Dr. Edwards has been serving as an obstetrician-gynecologist at Champions Women’s Center since 1981, where she provides women-centered care in a variety of areas. Alongside her present appointment, she has been a clinical assistant professor of obstetrics and gynecology and an educator of medical students and residents at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston since 1989 and 2002, respectively. In addition, she has also been serving as a faculty member in the Walker County Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic at Huntsville Memorial Hospital since 1989.
Prior to these positions, Dr. Edwards briefly acted as an assistant professor in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston for one year and chief of service at the Houston Northwest Medical Center for one year. Locally, she is a board member of the Hallet Oak Foundation and Hallettsville Cultural Event Center.
To prepare for her esteemed career, Dr. Edwards pursued a formal education at the University of Texas, earning a Bachelor of Arts in biology in 1971. She subsequently earned a Doctor of Medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston in 1976. After earning her medical degree, she completed an internship in the College of Medicine and Life Sciences at the University of Toledo for one year and a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston for three years. She has since been certified in obstetrics and gynecology by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
In recognition of her exceptional contributions to medicine, Dr. Edwards has accrued several accolades during her impressive career. She has been elected a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, The Daughters of the Republic of Texas, and the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. In addition, she has been honored as a Super Doctor and won the Medical Student Teaching Award from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. Notably, Dr. Edwards was highlighted in the 18th edition of Who’s Who of American Women in 1992.
