Constance Glasgow, MD, pediatrician and Capital Care Medical Group and private practice physician, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in pediatric medicine.
With more than 50 years of professional experience, Dr. Glasgow has been a private practice physician since 1966, also serving as a pediatrician for the Capital Care Medical Group since 2017. Prior to obtaining these roles, she held a pediatrics residency with the Jacobi Hospital/Bronx Municipal Hospital Center from 1961 to 1963, and a rotating internship with the Syracuse Upstate Medical Center from 1960 to 1961.
Dr. Glasgow was first introduced to the medical field by a friend of the family, Elsa Nessbaumer, who was a nurse. Her parents were immigrants from St. Vincent and her mother fell ill when Dr. Glasgow and her twin brother were born. Ms. Nessbaumer helped the family stay out of the foster care system, and nurtured Dr. Glasgow’s interest in medicine by inviting her to work at a clinic at New York Hospital as a teenager. Working as an attendant, she was further inspired by a particular surgeon who was well-respected and took great joy in being able to help others, serving as an example to many in the hospital.
Dr. Glasgow began her career as a student at Hunter College, where she obtained a Bachelor of Science in 1955. She continued at the State University of New York Downstate, Brooklyn, earning a Doctor of Medicine in 1960. A fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, she is also a member of the Capital District Links, for which she is co-chair of the national trends committee, and she serves on the ethics committee for Ellis Hospital.
Throughout her career, Dr. Glasgow has been recognized for her contributions, including with a Service to the Community Award from the New York State Assembly. She has also received a 50 Years of Service to the People of Clifton Park Award, a Richard Day Pediatric Teaching Award from SUNY Downstate, Brooklyn, and she is recognized as the first pediatrician to open practice in Clifton Park, New York. Named among the Best Doctors by Peer Recognition in the Capital Region, Dr. Glasgow has received the Best Doctor in America Award four times, a Certificate of Appreciation and New York State Community Distinction Award from New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, and New York State Senator Hugh Farley gave her a Women of Distinction in the Capital Region Award.
Dr. Glasgow is particularly proud of having made a difference in peoples’ lives in many different ways. She has mentored generations of medical professionals, some of whom she even cared for when they were babies and helped to mentor as students. She considers the highlight of her own career her graduation from medical school, when she was one of nine women among 150 students and one of only 500 in the nation at the time. Her parents had worked very hard for her achievement, and she was proud to have accomplished such a feat, especially at a time when it was very difficult for women to do so.
The daughter of Lester and Octavia Louisa Glasgow, Dr. Glasgow has been married to Twitty Junius Styles since 1962, and is the proud mother of Scott and Auria.
