Simon Rabinowitz, Gastroenterologist at State University of New York (SUNY) Downstate Medical Center, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in pediatric medicine.

Demonstrating more than three decades of professional experience, Dr. Rabinowitz excels in his current position as the Pediatrics Vice Chairman of the Clinical Practice for SUNY Downstate Medical Center. He has held this position since 2011. Prior to joining the institution, he provided his acerbic skill set as the Clinical Director and Chairman and Director of the Pediatrics Residency Program for the Richmond University Medical Center. He worked in these capacities from 2004 up until his appointment at SUNY Downstate Medical Center. In addition to these lauded roles, Dr. Rabinowitz strove to maintain the best possible care for patients as the Chief of Pediatrics Gastroenterology at Mount Sinai in Brooklyn from 1999 to 2004. He had also worked as the Associate Chairman of Pediatrics Research at the institution during this time. Earlier in his career, Dr. Rabinowitz worked as a research assistant at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

On top of these positions, Dr. Rabinowitz has associated with a number of career related positions. These include serving as President of the Pediatric Associates of New York City, PC from 1992 to 1996. He has held a similar position as the President of the Nutrition Committee of NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County. Furthermore, he was a member of the Medical Education Delegation to Eastern Europe with the People to People Program in 1992.

Displaying an early interest in the science and medical fields, Dr. Rabinowitz first earned a Bachelor of Arts form Vassar College in 1975, before attending the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In 1981, he graduated with a PhD from the institution and ventured to the University of Miami, receiving an MD in 1983. Following this, Dr. Rabinowitz completed a fellowship in pediatric gastroenterology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Supplementing his career, Dr. Rabinowitz has maintained connection with a number of professional organizations. These include the American Academy of Sciences, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American College of Gastroenterology, NASPGHAN, the American Gastroenterological Association, the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation, as well as Sigma Xi.

In recognition of his dedicated work to the field of medicine, Dr. Rabinowitz has been honored with a number of awards. These include being named to the Top Pediatrics in Brooklyn list with the American Academy of Pediatrics in 2015. A year prior to this honor, he was named among Top Pediatrics in Brooklyn, New York Metro Top Doctors with Castle Connolly Medical Ltd. Furthermore, he has been honored on several occasions as one of the Top Doctors in New York from New York Magazine and Attendant of the Year from Maimonides Medical Center. In 2017, he received the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award.
